About

Over the past few years, we have experienced floods, severe thunderstorms, major bridge outages, and a lot of other emergency situations that we informed you about through dctv23, Happenings e-mails, local media, and any other way we could get the word to you. Now, we are taking it a step further.

Douglas County is working with CodeRED Community Notification System to develop communications that will alert you quickly when time is of the essence. Douglas County Emergency Management Agency, E-911, and Communications and Community Relations will instantly notify every subscriber through whatever means you tell us you want to be contacted, including:

  • Cell Phone
  • E-mail Alerts
  • Home and Office Phone
  • Text Messages

You choose which notifications you want to receive!

Guidelines of Use

  • The CodeRED network will allow us to send out alerts to the County as a whole, and to specific smaller geographic areas. For example, if we are looking for a lost child in Fairplay, then we most likely would not notify people in Lithia Springs.
  • The service is free to our residents, and will give us multiple ways to get the word to you whenever an emergency situation arises.
  • Subscribers will receive a notification on each contact they provide to us. An automated system will call land lines and cell phones at the same time an e-mail and text message will go out, so you could receive four notifications, but we would rather you know than not know!
  • Your contact information will remain protected and confidential.

Notifications

CodeRED will only be activated in an emergency situation where there is a risk of significant harm, an urgent threat, or when a general notification is needed. When such a threat occurs, a brief message will be sent to those subscribed to the system, updating them or instructing them to seek additional information from other sources. If you have any questions of whether or not a notification is legitimate, call Emergency Management at 770-949-3007 or 911 for verification.

We will continue to do everything we can to keep you informed. However, this system is not intended to be the sole source for emergency notifications. You need to be aware of things happening around you, and keep yourself informed by all measures available to you. We can make no guarantee that every person will receive an emergency notification in every situation since phone lines may be down, cell phones may be turned off, etc. This system should be considered a supplemental notification system, and all Douglas County residents are encouraged to own a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather radio and be aware of their surroundings and weather conditions.
