The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted 5-0 on presenting a proclamation to the Kings Way Varsity Boys Basketball Team for winning the 2021 Georgia Christian Athletic Association (GCAA) State Championship at Tuesday’s March 2, 2021 virtual Commission meeting.
Douglas County District 1 Commissioner Henry Mitchell III read the proclamation recognizing King’s Way Christian School’s outstanding achievement winning the GCAA State Championship on Saturday, February 13 in McDonough, Ga defeating Byne Academy from Albany, Georgia.
“I do want to commend the King’s Way Varsity Boys Basketball team for their pursuit of excellence for five straight consecutive years,” Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, said. “This is worth honoring.”
“The Georgia Christian Athletic Association allows for our boys and girls to attend private Christian schools to be able to compete on levels that sometimes people would think they can’t,” said District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan. “But King’s Way Christian School shows yes we can.”
King’s Way Christian School Varsity Boys team was able to compete through the pandemic dealing with rescheduling of games and players having to be quarantined. District 1 Commissioner Mitchell spoke on his personal experience coaching and thanked Coach Mathew Nelson for the team’s determination and dedication.
The King’s Way Christian School Varsity Boys team has won five straight GCAA State Championships from 2017, through 2021, acquiring a dominating record during these five years of 100 wins and 6 losses. The school has been open in Douglas County for 47 years.
