Douglasville, Georgia - The Douglas County Department of Transportation has announced that construction on the new Post Road bridge over Dog River in western Douglas County is substantially complete and the bridge will be opened to motor vehicle traffic this evening, Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) closed the Post Rd. bridge on October 16, 2020 to construct a new one. GDOT held a final inspection on Wednesday, July 14, which Douglas County Department of Transportation staff attended. Both determined that the bridge could be reopened.
“There will still be a need for periodic lane closures in the next few weeks for the contractor to perform final punch list items,” Douglas County Department of Transportation Director Miguel Valentin said. “However, the bridge will be open as of this evening.”
The closure and detour that followed was done to help ensure safety for workers and motorists.
