The Douglas County Animal Shelter is at a "critical capacity point."

The shelter needs adopters, rescue partners, and fosters.

(Douglas County, GA)- Last week, the shelter took in 53-animals in 7 days. The daily average is about 17 animals coming into their careCurrently, the shelter has 176 animals, 144 dogs, and 30 cats in their care.

"We need adoptions to free up space in the shelter, said Vanessa Francikowski, Douglas County Animal Shelter Director," We are equipped to handle roughly 100 dogs daily. We have seen a considerable rise in severe cruelty to animal cases, which has resulted in us impounding numerous dogs for safekeeping and medical treatment."

All residents have been given their core vaccines, deworming, and a flea treatment. Fostering helps free up kennel space, and the shelter is seeking both new and existing fosters.

The Douglas County Animal Shelter will be extending business hours from April 1, 2022, to April 4, 2022, and will open from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on those dates. Adult dog and cat adoptions fees will be waived on these days. Reclaim fees will also be waived.
