Douglas County, GA - The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a proclamation recognizing May as Lupus Awareness Month at its Tuesday legislative voting meeting that would bring more awareness to Lupus, an acute and chronic (lifelong) autoimmune disease year-round.
Mrs. Gloria Robinson, mother of Vice Chair and District 2 Commissioner Kelly Robinson, who publicly shared she lives with Lupus, read the proclamation that states at least 1.5 million Americans, including approximately 55,000 Georgians, live with Lupus.
“Listening to my dear mother read the proclamation that my eyes cannot see, reminds me no matter how tough this chronic disease is, you can get through,” said Commissioner Robinson. “My mother inspires me, often offering help with my blindness, and I help her with her Lupus. It’s important to note that family matters.”
Lupus is a significant health issue that significantly impacts the state's economy and takes an immeasurable physical, financial, and emotional toll on many families in Georgia.
Ninety percent of every dollar raised by the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America stays in Georgia to support the chapter's programs. It provides resources for thousands of patients and families, including support and information, physician referrals, public and professional education, and grassroots advocacy on the state and federal levels.
