NewsFlash_CountySeal

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has approved a contract with VHB on June 22nd to provide an updated Comprehensive Plan.  At the board’s request, the Planning and Zoning staff provided options, including a Small Area Study for the East and West Bankhead areas along Veterans Memorial Highway to be completed in coordination with the Plan Update.

“A Comprehensive Plan update will allow us to take a fresh look at our opportunities to grow in Douglas County,” County Commission Chair Dr. Romona Jackson Jones said. “I strongly believe we can seize the moment now and move forward towards a bright and better future with the influx of new businesses and citizens coming to Douglas County.”

The Small Area Study will utilize the work from the Comprehensive Plan Update in the East and West Bankhead areas but would extend to include detailed land use, zoning, and infrastructure recommendations for the regions.

The total cost of the project is $321,700.00. The amended portion of the plan would cost $172,700 to be funded from a budget amendment to the Planning and Zoning Department budget.

The State of Georgia requires every city and county to update its Comprehensive Plan every five years. Please attend a presentation at the Board of Commissioners meeting on August 2, 2022, at 10:00 am to kick off the Comprehensive Plan update formally. There will be opportunities for citizen involvement.
