Douglas County Animal Services Set to Reopen to Public
The Douglas County Animal Services facility is expected to reopen to the public on Friday, January 6, 2023, after pipes burst inside the building on Christmas Eve due to frigid temperatures. Repairs to damaged areas are ongoing.
“We have never faced a catastrophe of this magnitude in the history of Animal Services, said Vanessa Francikowski, Director of Animal Services.” “The staff and I want to thank the Community for their outpouring of support. To see the public come in daily to walk dogs, drop off donations and even bring food for the staff meant more to us than words can say.”
Douglas County Animal Services staff is working on removing all donations and items used from the Deer Lick Park gym. Currently, there is limited space for the animals, but the team continues to work with rescue groups, fosters, and adopters, to find homes for as many animals as possible. On Christmas Eve, 144 animals were being housed at the facility. At this time, there are 46.
