Douglas County to Host First Virtual Public Meeting to Discuss Future Transportation Needs
Douglas County to Update Its 2009 Comprehensive Transportation Plan
(Douglas County, GA) On Thursday, December 3, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Douglas County will host its first virtual public meeting to begin discussions regarding the Douglas County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) update.
The Douglas County CTP was last updated in 2009. The CTP update effort is in collaboration with the municipalities of Austell, Douglasville, and Villa Rica along with state and regional partner agencies including, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the Atlanta Transit Link Authority (ATL), Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), and State Road and Toll Authority (SRTA).
Updating Douglas County’s CTP will enable the county to:
- Engage residents and stakeholders in shaping the future of transit in Douglas County,
- Collaborate with local, regional, and state partners to address transportation demands,
- Develop a 30-year vision for multimodal transportation needs that improve mobility, safety, connectivity, and quality of life,
- Identify a prioritized list of transportation improvements over the next 30 years, and
- Compete for federal and state transportation funding.
Since the 2009 CTP was completed, Douglas County has experienced significant changes. Specifically, by the year 2050, Douglas County’s population is expected to increase by approximately 27% (roughly 41,000 more residents). The change in population density will impact transportation demands in the county.
Residents and commuters who travel to and from Douglas County are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the process and share their input, which could help inform the outcomes of the new plan.
